We first viewed the cottage in June 2010, and saw the sorry state of its interior and exterior condition!
The previous owner had been taken into care some years previously, the cottage emptied of all possessions, and the building basically left to the elements.
The cottage has a wonderful view over the Wear valley, looking towards the North, and the previous owner tells us that the old deeds show the cottage being named as "North View", built in 1875. We have looked at maps from this time, and it is shown as a dwelling around this time.
We placed an offer to the agents, and after negotiations, we agreed to buy, however, following a structural survey, our hopes were shattered, when we read the results!
The only good thing to report was the view! The cottage needs renovation and repair both inside and out, liteally top to bottom.
After much soul searching and decision making, with maybe a bit of wishful thinking thrown in, we once again made decision to purchase....As yet, contracts are not signed and exchanged, but in the meantime, we are making progress with estimates, ideas, plans etc...all good fun I'm sure!
