French Door Fitting Day

Eventually, after much organisation, planning, second company choice etc., the french doors have now been fitted into the rear sitting room.  The old window was removed, and light oak upvc doors similar to those we had fitted into the kitchen were installed, the complete job from start to finish took just over one day, and we are very pleased with completed work.

Lots of pictures showing below and after installation :-

Pine Wardrobe

Our latest purchase to co-ordinate with other bedroom furniture, is a huge vintage pine wardrobe
Delivered with a struggle as very heavy -  thank goodness it dismantled into 4 parts for re-assembly in the bedroom.

Over 5000 views

Just wanted to say a huge "thank you" to everyone who has visited our Blog page, we have now exceeded the 5000 mark of visits - amazing!

Central Heating Boiler

Unfortunately  this week the old Gas Central Heating boiler that was fitted to the cottage  when we first bought, gave up the ghost, died and needed a new circuit board, price approximately £200 plus fitting. We decided that it was more economical to have a new A rated more efficient Gas Boiler fitted to replace it, which is now in place and working after a very efficient customer service time of only 24 hours after diagnosis (independent local plumber)

The new boiler, a Baxi also comes with a 7 year guarantee on parts and labour!

Kitchen almost finished....

We are making good progress with the kitchen at the cottage.
We now have a cooker hood, glass and stainless design fitted above the stove, and have bought a butcher's type chopping block, although at the minute don;t want to damage the wooden top chopping veggies on it!
It is really lovely in this room when sun streams in through the velux roof windows.

Hardwood Sun Room / Conservatory

Today we have successfully purchased a hardwood conservatory for fitting to the rear of the cottage.
As per our usual purchases (yes an Ebay bargain!) although hubby may not agree when we have to start to construct

It was for sale by someone who had bought it in 1996 from Wickes, stored in his garage, and never constructed.. chance would have it that this was exact same conservatory that we had built on a previous house we owned, so we knew of the components and a rough idea of how it should fit together...( the seller has no instruction manual so this part should be fun)

We intend to put into storage until next year when we will make a start in foundations etc for dwarf wall that is needed..

Will keep the blog updated when we get further with the sun room plans ...

Garage Tidying

Garage tidying day! We are still undecided as to whether we should dismantle the garage, leaving a rear workshop area only, and leaving a driveway only to park the car on. One of the advantages if we did this, we would have a lovely sandstone wall as our view.

and this wall would be demolished....

Summer In The Garden

Replacement Roof Ridge Tiles

We discovered (after a falling ridge tile in the high winds of autumn) that the cement used to fix the ridge tiles to the roof was an incorrect sandy mix, and after two attempts to replace cement grouting, we decided to renew with a new plastic type of ridge tile that are screwed into a wooden framework, making a more secure fix

Crafts In The Cottage

Being an intrepid crafter, I have started to make things for the cottage, mostly in a "shabby chic" style..

The Garden In Springtime

Although the weather has been a little unsettled over the past few months, the garden is "springing" into life.
The bulbs that we planted in the Autumn are now flowering, daffodils and tulips are blooming.

We also bought some planters and shrubs to brighten up the rear courtyard area
Cannot wait for the sun to shine and it be warm enough to sit and eat breakfast there.
